Toxoplasma gondii in pork and pigs in Serbia – a real food safety hazard

چکیده
Abstract Infection with the apicomplexan protozoon Toxoplasma gondii is one of most prevalent parasitic zoonotic infections globally, existing seroprevalences varying between continents, countries, and even within countries individual communities. It estimated that third world’s human population infected T. , many studies showing dominant mode infection consumption undercooked meat harbouring tissue cysts. Prevalences in food animals different range from 0 to 93%. Because absence clinical symptoms animals, unfeasibility rapid unequivocal detection microscopic cysts pork, pigs remain unrecognized, their becomes an essential source for humans. The data on Serbia several studies, as well parasite categories, fresh pork heat-treated products, are discussed.

Toxoplasma gondii in Meat and Food Safety Implications – A Review
Nevertheless, there are many reasons for foodborne disease remaining a global public health challenge. As some diseases are controlled, others emerge as new threats. New agents of risk have occupied the ecological niche of those on which control pressure has been exerted, replacing the previous ones. The proportions of the population who are elderly, immunosuppressed or otherwise disproportiona...

Ingestion of undercooked meat is a major risk factor for human toxoplasmosis, a disease caused by the zoonotic protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii. Infected pork, mutton and game meat are considered important infection sources in Europe. This thesis aims to describe the epidemiology of T. gondii in two possible key species for human toxoplasmosis in Sweden, namely domestic pigs and wild boars....
متن کاملToxoplasma gondii infection in slaughter pigs in Serbia: seroprevalence and demonstration of parasites in blood
A seroepizootiological study of Toxoplasma gondii infection involving a total of 488 slaughter pigs (468 market-weight pigs and 20 sows) in the Belgrade area, also included examination of the presence of T. gondii in the blood. Blood sampled at the slaughter line was examined for specific antibodies by modified direct agglutination, and blood clots of those seropositive at titres of 1:50-1:1280...
متن کاملSpatial epidemiology of Toxoplasma gondii infection in goats in Serbia.
A major risk factor for Toxoplasma gondii infection is consumption of undercooked meat. Increasing demand for goat meat is likely to promote the role of this animal for human toxoplasmosis. As there are virtually no data on toxoplasmosis in goats in Serbia, we undertook a cross-sectional serological study, including prediction modelling using geographical information systems (GIS). Sera from 43...
متن کاملToxoplasma gondii infection in pork produced in France.
The aim of this study was to assess the seroprevalence of the Toxoplasma gondii parasite in pork produced in France, and to determine infection risk factors. An innovative survey was designed based on annual numbers of slaughtered pigs from intensive and outdoor farms in France. A total of 1549 samples of cardiac fluids were collected from pig hearts to determine seroprevalence using a Modified...
